The Mornington Freemasons are proud to be part of Freemasons Victoria, an organization that has been making a positive impact in the lives of people for over 130 years.
OUR HISTORY
On 13 February 1890, several Freemasons met at the Mechanics Institute, Mornington, for the purpose of establishing a Masonic centre in the town.
It was unanimously agreed that a Lodge should be formed, and Henry Erskine Moors was elected Secretary pro-temp. The meeting was adjourned until 20 November 1890. This meeting was advised to the Grand Secretary. It was resolved that the Lodge be called 'The Mornington Lodge' to meet at the Mechanics Institute on the Thursday on or before the full moon of each month.
In the April of 1918, the Lodge purchased the Methodist Church, Barkly Street, Mornington. The Mornington Lodge No. 160 then proceeded to meet there from September 1921.
The initial meeting of the Lodge in the new location was the 350th meeting on 19 September 1921. In the early 1950's the front of the building was extended to what it is today and was named 'The Masonic Centre Mornington'. The Lodge now meets on the third Thursday of each month excluding December.
